Carve 4 Cancer 2020

As we all know, Covid-19 has given us some very challenging times. You could say that the pandemic made for some very interesting challenges for our event this year. However, despite these difficulties, Carve 4 Cancer 2020 was a record-breaking success, which we couldn't have done without the support of all of our sponsors, participants, and everyone at the WCCF!

Throughout the fall, we virtually approached local businesses and asked them to be a part of our fun, Halloween-themed event. We asked them for two things: to donate to the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation, and to participate in our giant pumpkin carving contest. By the end of October, we were able to get a great display of pumpkins and a huge amount of donations for the WCCF!

In past years, we had the patients and staff vote for their favourite display through a paper ballot system. This year, with Covid-19, we had to make this voting system virtual. We were able to do this through Facebook likes, where all of the pumpkins had a picture of them put on the WCCF's Facebook page, and whichever picture had the most likes won! Everyone was able to be involved this year, unlike past years where it was only patients and staff. This year, even your far-away friends and family could vote!

This virtual system really brought out the competitive side of businesses as they all started promoting their pumpkin and getting all of their employees to vote for them before the deadline! You could definitely say that it was a tight race, down to the very last minute! Keep reading to find out who the winners are...

By the end of our voting period, we had a record-breaking amount of votes, beating the 115 record from 2018. Not only that, we broke another record, that of the total amount raised. This year, we had not set a specific amount of how much money we wanted to raise, since we didn't know what to expect with Covid-19. But despite all of this, we had tremendous support and were able to raise a jaw-dropping $11,780 for the WCCF! This brings our overall total over the past three years to $30,180!

Thank you so much to all of our amazing sponsors, participants, voters, and everyone else who made this year happen! We were able to bring on so many smiles during these tough times thanks to all of you! Thanks again so much and see you next year! Don't forget to stay safe and distanced! Happy Halloween!
